The perfect photo
To create the portrait I need the best possible reference photo. It should be sharp and preferably high resolution so the finished portrait can be rich in detail.
Natural light is the best way to take a sharp photograph of your pet. Indoors, take the photo close to a window, or photograph outdoors when possible.
The sharper and better proportioned the photo, the better the resulting artwork can be. Images downloaded from social media are often too small and compressed to be suitable.
A few simple tricks make a great reference photo easier. Use a treat or a kind word to help your pet stay still. Photograph at eye level from about 1–1.5 metres, moving closer for smaller animals. Avoid angles that distort the body. The examples below show suitable and less suitable photos.
Tips for the perfect photo
A treat or a kind word can help your pet look calmly and directly at the camera. Use natural light whenever possible and keep the eyes and nose sharp.

TIPP 1.
Ideally, photograph at eye level from about 1–1.5 metres.

TIPP 2.
Keep the proportions of the head and body natural and free from distortion.

TIPP 3.
Photograph a smaller animal closer so the image retains its detail.
These examples make it easier to see which photos are suitable and which are less suitable.
